PARKASH Singh Badal recently addressed a conference near Jaitu in Faridkot. The aim was to canvass for the forthcoming SGPC elections to maintain his political power. Interestingly, to provide electrical power for the rally, the organisers were stealing it through kundi connections. The act may not seem appalling to the SAD, I would say. Because SAD has been promising free power to farmers in the past, so what’s wrong in its using ‘free’ electric power in its own conference. Kundi connections have direct link with the political power. Mostly unauthorised colonies and slum areas use kundi connections. As these people are the major vote-banks of the leaders, the authorities don’t dare to annoy them. As a matter of fact, the electricity thieves should be trained to draw power through kundis in a safe manner. Because if some slum dweller dies accidentally, while messing with the live wires for connecting kundi, it is a big loss to the leader of his area, who loses a committed voter. Somebody asked Badal sahib, "Sir, there are thousands and thousands of kundi connections across Punjab, why don’t you do something about it?" Badal replied, "Let us make a separate Kundi Corporation of Punjab and adjust one of our MLA as the chairman and a bureaucrat as the MD."
