Jeans fit, life hit
Skinny jeans are a combo of ease and style, says Shama Rana

While celebs like Rihanna, Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Nicole Richie and Jessica Simpson look divine in them, back home Bollywood actresses like Katrina Kaif and Sushmita Sen swear by this piece of fabric. The fad of slim, tight and skinny pants has hit the fashion scene like a storm, and fashion Moguls have termed it the hottest trend, one cannot afford to overlook this season. Denim is one of the most fashionable clothing items, and generations of all time have experimented with it. The skinny jeans of 1920s are back, and have become one of the fashion rages today. Skinny jeans are tight fitting jeans with a snug fit all through the leg. Supermodel Kate Moss is often credited with reintroducing the style to the fashion circuit.

As the name suggests, these jeans are in no way meant only for skinny people. Instead, these have become a must-have item for girls of all shapes and sizes. It is an extremely trendy piece found in every fashion conscious woman’s wardrobe.

These jeans look good and suit all kinds of body types, making one look slimmer than one actually is. Lycra in skinny jeans brings elasticity for keeping it tight, and at the same time makes the pants cling in line with one’s figure. Skinny jeans are not a new trend. During the 1950s, celebs like Marilyn Monroe, Roy Rogers and rock star Elvis Presley sported a taper leg-styled pants.

However, in the late sixties, skinny jeans were replaced by hippies, who brought in the trend of flared bottom pants. But seventies saw once again the emergence of Teddy Boy look of the 1950s, and skinny jeans found its lost foothold. At the onset of this millennium, bands such as the Strokes and the Libertines made a pair of skinny jeans, a fashion item.

With the passage of time, these jeans have become a mainstream fashion trend among men as well.

It is the first choice among those who love to flaunt their body types. Skinny jeans come in a variety of shades, styles and countless shapes. These jeans are a sure match for every occasion. Just team the garment up with a blazer and matching accessories, and be a showstopper at a formal event, or a party. For a feminine look, wear a long top.

To flaunt your curves, wear this style with a slim-fitting shirt. A low waist skinny black jean is the hot pick of the season. The style is ideal for slender figures. For a longer and leaner look, wear sweaters or long tunics, whereas tight-fitting tops do the trick with pants, which are highly fitted around knees and thighs.

A pair of skinny jeans gels well with any kind of footwear such as the ballet pump, round-ended flat shoes etc. A pair of high heels imparts a sexy look with these jeans. But skinny jeans and sneakers make for incompatible partners, and should never be teamed up together; of course, unless you want fashion police hankering after you.

There is now such a variety of styles available that it can sometimes be a little overwhelming. While selecting, go in for a pair that gives your body the best fir. Choose the ones that are not too tight, and cling to your body just like second skin. These jeans never stretch too much; so if you don’t feel comfortable while trying, better go for a size bigger.

For oozing oodles of oomph, never wear these jeans with length more than your ankle. Skinny jeans are all about a perfect look, not an ideal waistline. However, these jeans are not a sensible choice for women with an extra large size because they may feel uncomfortable, and look unflattering in such outfits. Pair the jeans with stilettos and select black or dark washes to get a slim effect.

To camouflage the issue areas, put on loose tops or even Indian kurtis for that matter. Wear these jeans with boots in the winter, pumps and platforms in the spring, and with sandals in the summer to make all the heads turn.
