Parmod Mehta

Dera Bassi, July 26
Residents of Lalru mandi protested against the absence of proper drainage system. They were annoyed at the irresponsible behaviour of the management of the mandi.

They threatened an agitation against the authorities concerned if the sewerage system was not properly managed. Congress leader Krishan Kumar Gupta and CPI leader Venod Chug said they had complained to authorities regarding the improper drainage but no action was taken till now.

They feared the outbreak of an epidemic in absence of proper drainage.

The political leaders alleged that officials of the Market Committee, Lalru, have been charging fee from the rehri owners, but were not maintaining hygiene in the market.

Lack of proper drainage of rainwater had caused flooding in the mandi from past few days. Due to flooding a youth was electrocuted.

Meanwhile, secretary of the Market Committee said a sweeper has been deputed for the purpose of cleaning the market and the drains.
