It is fun and frolic all the way in Toy Story
3, which has colour, action, TOY Story has been one of my favourite animation films, along with The Lion King and The Little Mermaid. It conjured a whole new world for children and set up a new high in animation. And, strangely, its sequels live up to that high standard unlike sequels in general. So, Toy Story 3 continues in the same strain to give the viewers a royal feast of all-round fun. It has colour, action, drama and romance, all in 3D for both the young and the old; so one just cannot ask for more in the realm of family entertainment. It carries forward the wonderful experiences of Woody (voice of Tom Hanks) and his friends as they have to cope with the darker side of life after having years of roses, roses all the time. The toys must cope with the fear of rejection and the insecurity of being unwanted. It is a strange new world for them in the daycare centre run by a self-appointed dictator the bear (Ned Beatty) and his chelas Ken (Michael Keaton) and Big Baby. A revolt is brewing and it comes in due style. Woody must escape from this hellhole but not before freeing his best friend Buzz (Tim Allen). But problems keep cropping up (after all the film must run its 102 minutes), and the friendly Space Ranger suddenly gets defected and is now fighting his friends. Then, amazingly, a re-boot has Buzz donning the garb of a Don Juan, and providing some of the zaniest moments of the film. In all this fun and frolic and some tense, even moving moments, there are lessons to be learnt. That one must inculcate team spirit to fight the enemy and possess the ability to stand up to bullies. But there are also some tips for the not-so-young, and all with the added advantage of 3D technology. Actually, Toy Story 3
caters to a wide variety of viewers, and what’s more, it does not
drill in these mantras. They are as silent as the ‘t’ in subtle.
So don’t hesitate. Get moving and catch it before it goes.
