Kicks and thrills
Jaspal Bhatti

Our countrymen are certainly experts in the art of kickbacks. We also excel in kicking up a controversy whether it is religious or political or class-related. But when it comes to football, not many can kick the ball right. As a matter of fact, not many youngsters are interested in playing football. It’s a different thing that every kid’s first toy is an inflated big ball, and every puppy is given a rubber ball to inculcate in them a ‘ball sense’. When both grow up, dogs start chasing cars and boys start running after cricket stars.

Barring Kolkata and Kerala, India is basically not a football-crazy country. Some people prefer soccer to hockey because the ball is much bigger and can be seen without difficulty. Cricket in India is a religion and Indians worship Sachin Tendulkar and Mahendra Singh Dhoni as gods. It would be a`A0good idea if we chose two football players and spend millions on popularising them on television. Just spread the word that they are getting Rs 1 crore per match. Then our youngsters can dream of becoming top rich famous footballers-cum-TV stars.

A person went to psychiatrist and said, "When I sleep, I see monkeys playing football in my dreams." The doctor gave the patient a medicine and asked him to take it immediately to get rid of his monkey dreams. The patient asked, "Doctor, can I take it tomorrow?" "Why?" asked the doctor? The patient said, "The monkeys have a final match tonight."
