WHAT viewers see on stage can be completely at variance with what goes on behind the scenes. It is this concept that drives the new comedy series 30 Rock from Monday to Friday at 7 p.m. on Star World. Set in New York City, the series is a hilarious take on the backstage activities of a fictional sketch comedy called The Girlie Show that stars Tracy Jordan (TV funny man Tracy Morgan) with Liz Lemon as its head writer, portrayed by real-life script writer Tina Fey. The unusual name 30 Rock is based on the real address of NBC’s studio at 30, Rockefeller Plaza in New York widely referred to as 30 Rock. The sitcom is told through Liz’s voice, whose job involves dealing with star tantrums and bossy network executives. Alec Baldwin plays Jack Donaghy, the brash network honcho, who turns Liz’s show (and life) upside down with his meddling ways. The new season-4 revolves around Jack’s command that Liz cast a new actor to replace Tracy Jordan and her subsequent search for the perfect comedian.

Ocean of destruction

More than six years ago, the devastating Tsunami waves that hit coastal India wiped out thousands of villages and human lives. Naked Science: Ten Things You Didn’t Know About Tsunamis on Monday at 2 a.m. on the National Geographic Channel is all about this ruinous natural phenomenon. Host Dr Iain Stewart takes viewers on a journey across the oceans to explore the most powerful giant waves in history with remarkable stories about Tsunamis. These massive waves can destroy everything in their path. Yet astonishingly, two persons, who surfed the tallest wave in history, have lived to tell the tale. — NF
