3 BKI terrorists, two looters nabbed
Rapura, March 26 These arrests have opened up the nexus between Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorists and looters wherein the BKI has found new accomplice to attain its target of anti-social activities. Police officials are surprised to see a country made .315 bore gun, seized for the first time by the Patiala police. Its origin is being investigated. SSP, Patiala, RS Khattra and SP(D) Gurdeep Singh Pannu said the Babbars made liaison with local looters. Around nine months ago the two groups “collaborated” and committed robberies besides planning to eliminate god men Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim and Baba Bhaniarawala. Two of the gang members, Lakhwinder, alias Tony, and Joga (both looters), were arrested on a tip off. On their statements other accused Waryam, Bhupinder and Kulwant, all Babbar Khalsa terrorists, were later arrested. The arrested accused have admitted to laying traps twice to kill the god men, besides committing nearly dozen robberies and other heinous crimes during the past eight or nine months in Rajpura and adjoining areas. Main accused, 40-year-old sharp shooter Waryam Singh, alias Giani, a resident of Lalru, is a proclaimed offender and had made a new gang to commit robberies and continue terrorist activities under the banner of Babbar Khalsa. The police had also arrested Preeti and Kamlesh Rani from Patiala a few months ago. Waryam had lived with Preeti and Kamlesh as their husband. Both women are now languishing in jail. Waryam has also been to Pakistan with some religious groups (jathas). His gang tried to loot Gramin Bank in Pinjore, and later looted a doctor at Patiala and a bread shop owner at Rajpura. DSP, Rajpura, Manmohan Sharma and SHO (city) BS Brar said they got clues after cracking the case of the bread shop around a month ago. Cops said two futile attacks on Dera heads were arranged with the help of Jaswinder Singh Jassi who was said to be in Italy and had been providing the gang members with Italian weapons. The cops said reports suggested that Jassi was in India and would be arrested soon. Two accused, Jassi from Muradpur and Sohna from Saidkheri village, managed to give a slip to the police and efforts were on to nab them. Police officials said that four mobile sets and one motorbike had also been recovered. |

Terror suspect held, another sent to police remand
Solan/Zirakpur, March 26 Through one of the key members of the module,
Harminder, a prime suspect in the Ludhiana Shingar Cinema blast case, the terror group is learnt to have smuggled 5 kg of
RDX, hand grenades and other ammunition. Harminder is still absconding. The suspects in the Shingar Cinema blast were being regrouped to carry out a similar attack. Based on key inputs from the special cell of the Delhi Police, the counter intelligence wing of the Punjab Police achieved a major success today when a team led by DSP RS Sohal arrested Dharminder Singh, a resident of Churpur village in Nawanshahar district of Punjab, from an HRTC bus near
Goyla, Solan. A seven-member team, led by the DSP, had been camping in the Haripur-Goyla area since the past 2-3 days to nab this youth who was an accomplice of the recently arrested three BKI terrorists -- Parshotam Singh, Daljit Kumar and Tarwinder Singh -- by the Mohali police on March 22. Police officials said he had provided SIM cards to
Harminder. Officials confided that he had also supplied SIM cards to some other criminals and the police was on the look out for him. He had fled from his home after a police party raided his house following the arrest of three terrorists from Mohali on March 22.
Dharminder had a criminal background and he was undergoing a trial in a murder case and was booked in some more cases as well. Since a number of people from Nawanshahar frequent the famous Haripur
Gurdwara, near Goyla, he had come here after fleeing from his home. He stayed at this gurdwara for a day and was planning to go to
Jorjee, another gurdwara located a few kilometres away. Initial attempts of the police to nab him in plain clothes failed when one of the local policeman, who was accompanying the Punjab Police, happened to get recognised in his khakhi turban. This led Dharminder to flee from the spot. The Punjab Police had to spend 2-3 days in trying to muster the support of the locals. The policemen showed pictures to the locals and it was one such information that helped them arrest him today from the Haripur-Goyla bus, confided an official. They were helped by a police team from the Barotiwala police station. The Mohali police had already recovered Rs 1 lakh cash, a .455 bore pistol, three live cartridges and four hand grenades from the arrested suspects. Acting on the leads, the Mohali police today brought BKI terrorist Gurpreet Singh, an accused in Ludhiana Shingar Cinema blast, on production warrant for interrogation related to recently arrested BKI terrorists in Zirakpur. The police today produced Gurpreet Singh at Dera Bassi court where the court sent him to police remand till March 29. He was accused in the Shingar Cinema blast in 2007. |
