Television WE
have been regaled by Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Temple of
Doom and The Last Crusade. In fact, when The Last
Crusade was released in 1989 many thought that Harrison Ford,
then 46, who played the legendary character, would give way to a
younger actor. But it wasn’t to be Ford’s last crusade. Two
decades later, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas called upon the
ageing actor to do another sequel. Critics said the film was
doomed. After all, who’d accept a 65-year-old Indiana Jones?
They were all proved wrong. Indiana Jones & the Kingdom
of the Crystal, which is on Sunday at 9.30 pm on Star Movies,
turned out to be as big a blockbuster as the earlier trilogy.
During the Cold War, Soviet agents detect Professor Jones
receiving a coded message. He then embarks on a mission to Peru
where he finds a legendary skull. If he can deliver it to its
rightful place, all may be well; but if the Soviets get hold of
it, they’ll gain powers that could endanger the world. Though
the Cold War may be long over but Indiana Jones is not. — NF
