Hotels warned against illegal parking
Patiala, December 6 The MC has decided to crack the whip against unauthorised parking outside hotels which leads to frequent traffic snarls. Manjit Singh Narang, MC Commissioner, said it had been brought to his notice that many hotels had been using municipal land for parking. It had been decided that a campaign would soon be launched against such parking. Most hotels located in the vicinity of Leela Bhawan had converted the basements of the hotels into eateries and had shown the basements as parking lots in the building plans approved by the MC. Narang said the hotel owners converted the basements into eateries and there was no parking inside the premises of the hotels. He said he had been informed that the hotels had saved land by changing the land use from parking to dining hall and got additional seating capacity without paying for it. Haphazard parking outside these hotels inconvenienced public as scores of vehicles were parked there. The problem gets aggravated in the evenings when the volume of traffic increases. Sources in the MC said notices had been periodically issued to these hotels some years ago, but the owners used their political connections and there was no follow-up action. Narang said he was not aware that the building plans approved for the hotels showed the basements as parking places. He said he would look into the matter and action would be taken if any violation of plans was detected. |
