IF the sifarish devta and rishvat devta are on your side; you can get any kind of work done in India. Recently the authorities in Andhra Pradesh issued a ration card in the name of Mahatma Gandhi along with his picture. Bhai what’s the big deal in it? Documents were complete iss liye bana diya hoga. Chances were that the clerks and officials dealing with it wouldn’t have had the time look at the picture once they had counted their under-the table money taken to issue the card. If some official may have happened to look at Mahatma’s picture he might have said to himself, "Yaar, yeh banda kahin dekha hua lagta hai (This guy looks familiar)." Ironically, the people who take bribes daily see the photograph of the Father of the Nation on the currency notes, but they don’t recognise him. It is all the more shameful that the card named Nathuram Godse as the Mahatma’s father. If the killer of Gandhiji could be made his father on papers, do you think any terrorist from across the border can have any difficulty in getting his I-card or voter card by bribing the officials? If we can’t stop those who are into issuing bogus ration cards, we must, at least, provide them with proper software so that they don’t issue fake documents in the name of dead leaders. I told the Andhra story to my friend Sandhu, who supervises the department that deals with the ration cards. As a precautionary measure, he immediately put up a notice, "Dead persons are requested not to apply for ration cards here!"
