Ulta Pulta
Costly contentions

Mahinder, a BPL citizen, decided to declare his assets. Let me clarify, BPL is not a public sector or a multinational company. It simply means Below Poverty Line.

Mahinder’s wife was quite angry, "Why do you to want to make fun of our poverty in public?" He said, "Look bhagwan, a new trend has come into being. More and more Judges, bureaucrats and public figures have started divulging their assets to outdo each other in proving that they don’t have much to declare."

Mahinder then called up a television news channel and told them that he wanted to declare his assets. When the channel people came to know that he was a poor tea-stall owner, they banged the phone.

He was not discouraged. He then called up the income tax department and was put through the assistant commissioner of his area. "Sir, I want to declare my assets," he said proudly. The officer asked him, "Don’t you file your returns?" Mahinder replied, "The problem is that I don’t have any income."

The officer asked him, "What’s your business?" Mahinder said, "I run a tea stall and can’t make both ends meet." "Then why do you want to declare your assets?" asked the officer controlling his temper. He said, "Sir, I want to be morally equal to MPs, Judges and IAS officers."

"Don’t call us again and waste our time. First work hard and earn enough black money to get into our good books."
