Airtel told to cough up Rs 32,000 as relief
Chandigarh, November 18 The complainants, Ashok Kumar, Arun Kumar, Shekhar, Dharam Pal, all residents of Sector 7, had seven mobile connections provided by Airtel under the corporate category and were paying the bills regularly. The bill amount for the month of August, September and October 2008 was paid through cheques. However, the company did not post the correct bill amount against each connection and posted it in a negligent and arbitrary manner. As a result of which the company began disconnecting the mobile connections on account of non-payment of bill and the complainants had to get the same restored time and again since August 2008. However, the company in its reply submitted that inadvertently the composite amount of Rs 7,820 paid through cheque was posted against one number, which was later on identified and corrected. The forum in its orders observed that due to the mistake of the company itself, they penalised the complainants by barring their calls or disconnecting the connections. The deficiency on the part of the company is manifest due to which the complainants suffered harassment on account of disconnection of mobile numbers or their calls were barred as a result they could not use the services for which they had already paid. It is the negligence on the part of the employees of the company, who wrongly posted the amount against either a single connection or against some connections in contravention of the directions given by the complainants’ mobile phone users, stated the orders. |
