Your second release All the Best comes nearly a year after your debut

It’s a long wait but not that much also. But I did not want to make any mistake by taking hasty decisions. My first film was a hit`85my performance was appreciated and naturally a number of offers started coming in. But I was sure about what to do. So I decided to choose the right project.

How has been the journey so far?

It has been great`85in one word fantastic. I have been fortunate that I got a very warm welcome to the industry and have been offered some very good projects. My co-stars in all the films have been great to work with. Now, I have to make sure that I work hard and come up with some good performances to stay here for a longer period.

You have been lucky to begin with Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion and now All The Best is Ajay Devgan’s production and Jail is Bhandarkar’s film

Of course, I have been lucky that these directors and producers have shown faith in me. At the same time, I feel I got lucky only because I worked hard towards my goal. I feel luck and hard work go hand-in-hand. Had I not given a good performance in Fashion, I don’t think luck would have favoured me.

How come this shift from modelling to acting?

I was a model for five years and was really enjoying it. At the same time, I was also thinking of doing something different and meaningful. That’s when Fashion happened. Its success prompted me to work more. I am enjoying my stay in the industry. I hope it’s not going to change for at least a while now.

How was it working with big stars like Ajay Devgan, Bipasha Basu and Sanjay Dutt in All The Best?

It was fabulous. And as I said earlier I never felt I was a comparatively newcomer whereas they all were stars. Initially I was a bit nervous that I would be working with Sanjay Dutt but he is gem of a person, so are Bipasha, Fardeen and Ajay. They all made me feel comfortable. The film is a fun film, so the onscreen mood prevailed off the screen too.

Was working in Fashion easier as you were playing a model there whereas All The Best is a comedy?

I won’t agree completely but certainly All The Best is a completely different film. It’s a light-hearted comedy, so I had to prepare for the role differently, whereas in Fashion I was playing a model. I had a fair knowledge of the profession and was completely at ease walking the ramp. However, the personality and nature of the role I played in Fashion had nothing to do with me as a real-life model. So it was almost the same when it came to giving effort towards my role. In the film, I played a very happy-go-lucky girl, very modern, elegant and stylish. It was a ball working with Fardeen Khan.

You didn’t do any make-up for your role in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Jail

Yes, I had to look very simple and ordinary`85girl-next-door and for that I had to do away with make up. I know the kind of director Madhur Bhandarkar is. He can make me look glamorous for a role and deglamorous for another just to make the film and story look better. Jail is a very serious and intense film and I didn’t mind doing this role without make up.

So when do we see you next?

I will pick and choose my projects carefully. I am in no rush. I am listening to a few scripts and considering a couple of powerful scripts. You will get to know about these very soon. — TWF
