skills in live-or-die situations

Survivorman on the Discovery Channel every Thursday at 9 P.M. is a documentary series revolving around a Canadian, Les Stroud, who repeatedly puts himself in live-or-die situations without any backup plan. Stranded in remote parts of the world without food, water or shelter, Stroud only has his wit and stamina to live through a seven-day ordeal and survive. Stroud’s idea of a nature outing is a little different from yours and mine. He takes off alone to the punishing corners of the world with nothing but a few cameras to document his (often miserable) experiences. From the frozen Arctic pack ice to the fetid jungles of Central America, Survivorman highlights Stroud’s extraordinary self-reliance and survival skills.

Crackpots on the loose

A wacky series that guarantees to give a bellyache of laughter, Whose Life Is It Anyway? returns with an all-new season on Star World every Friday at 8.30 P.M. This American series is based on a British show of the same name and hosted by Drew Carey. The largely unscripted hit game show sees a set of comedians devise sketches, impersonations and songs based on random topics determined by an equally playful audience. Ever wonder what an excitable dog would do on a Let’s Make a Date TV show? Or an astronaut with an alien inside him? And what would a newscast be like if the anchors were smart-aleck school kids showing off in class? The spaced-out cast of quick-thinking regulars includes Emmy winner Wayne Brady, Ryan Stiles, Colin Mochrie and other stars in one hilariously hot-wired situation after another. — NF
