Recently, a national camp, being held for the junior hockey team, was abandoned after 50 of the 55 players participating in the camp were found to be overage. Had it been an all-women’s camp it could have been easy to understand the reason. Because if you start counting candles on the cake at a woman’s birthday party, you will be considered quite ill mannered. A woman, even a sportswoman, has the right to fill in the wrong age in the participation forms. But this exemption shouldn’t be and is not there for the male players. Normally, colleges and other educational institutions give all kinds of facilities and scholarships to the sports students and make sure that these students take longer to complete their graduation so that they can keep representing their college for a long time. Their age comes to a ‘standstill’ courtesy the sports department of the institution. Some parents even have to ask the principal, "Sir, how old is our son now?" But it would look strange if a junior hockey player’s age has been shown as 17 and his wife and teenaged children are cheering him from the sidelines. A young player was fixing fake moustaches in the cloakroom before an under-18 players match. The coach asked him, "Why are you putting on fake moustaches?" "All other players are overage and look much older than me", he said. "They should not feel guilty, if I, a younger-looking chap, score more goals than they do."
