Television IT's the ultimate classic that has stood the test of time. Counted among the three greatest stories ever written, Crusoe on Monday at 9 P.M. on the History and Entertainment Channel is based on the classic of the same name by Daniel Defoe.
It is a tale of mythical proportions, an allegory, and a spiritual story of survival against all odds. Young sailor Robinson Crusoe leaves the love of his life to set out on an adventure. Suddenly he is shipwrecked and cast away on a tropical island near Venezuela, encountering native Americans, captives, and mutineers. Stranded and lonely, only his friendship with Friday and memories of his wife, keep him sane as he battles enemies, braves the elements and learns how to survive on the island for over 28 years. Chilling misadventure This is a riveting
series that tells the true-life travel stories — when a holiday in
paradise ends up in a prison cell in a foreign land. Jailed Abroad on
Saturday at 10 P.M. on the National Geographic Channel is a
continuation of the series where travellers, out of naivety or plain
bad luck, have fallen foul of a local legal system and found
themselves behind bars or in captivity of kidnappers. This episode
encapsulates the story of a missionary couple, Gracia and Martin
Burnham, on vacation to the Philippines to celebrate their wedding
anniversary; they were kidnapped there by a Muslim fundamentalist
group known for beheading their victims. For the next year the two
remained in captivity with a vicious group known for its brutal
killings. — NF
