I must be only person who was very happy with the bank strike because I had to make a few payments and the strike gave me a valid excuse for not doing so. Had the banks been working I couldn’t have made payments, as I did not have any money in my account. The skyrocketing prices of the essential commodities have already marginalised many people’s bank balances. Like me they must have been least bothered by the PSU banks’ strike. Though the strike did affect those in business. The traders said a large number of ATMs had run out of cash though those having black money were not affected. It might have been a great boost for those in the business of fake currency in the absence of genuine currency. There was a news item that about 5 kg of ink used for printing currency notes was found missing on its way to a printing centre in Mysore. Some guys might have reckoned that it was easier to print their own currency than to queue before an ATM. Although the strike may have served its purpose to some extent but the ATMs did save the customers to some extent and minimised the effect of two-day strike. But next time the banking unions should come up with more innovative and pro-union ATMs. As the customer will insert his card in the machine during the strike, the machine should laugh and spit back the shredded card of the customer.
