Kiefer Sutherland plays Agent Bauer in ‘24’
Kiefer Sutherland plays Agent Bauer in ‘24’

IT is tinker-tailor versus soldier-spy in this high-voltage drama that spills out of the files of American government’s anti-espionage activities.‘24’ every Thursday at 3 P.M. on AXN revolves around terrorist themes with conspiracies, assassinations, bombings and mayhem being an integral part of the agenda. The Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning action drama television series centres around the Los Angeles branch of the American Counter Terrorist Unit (ACTU) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The series is presented in real time, with each season depicting a 24-hour period in the life of Jack Bauer, who works for the U.S. government as it fights domestic terrorist threats. The show also follows the actions of other CTU agents, government officials and terrorists, associated with the plot. So brace up for some no-holds barred action as agent Jack Bauer — played excellently by Hollywood star Kiefer Sutherland, who shoots first and asks questions later very much in the style of Agent 007.

Courting laughter

It has been called "fast and funny from the first scene to the last." My Cousin Vinny at 9 P.M. on Sunday on Star Movies is a kind of farcical comedy that comes once in years. A courtroom drama that has you rolling with laughter in one moment and biting your nails in another . The story revolves around two college friends who are framed for killing a shop assistant. One of the boys calls his cousin Vinny, a failed lawyer (played by Joe Pesci) to fight their case. Vinny comes to his cousin’s rescue with his babe in tow raising not just eyebrows but the ire of the judge (Fred Gyynne) The banter between the judge and lawyer soon takes on hilarious proportions as Vinny is held for contempt for talking to the chair in a funny manner. In fact the beauty of the movie is that even the bad jokes raise a good laugh. Even if you’ve already seen it, My Cousin Vinny is worth a dekko again. — NF
