Botox for boys

Whether you are 18, 65 or somewhere in between, you can take botox treatment. Many of our Bollywood actors owe their boyish good looks to this, says Hector Choksi

WELL! Botox is fast getting the name of boytox, as more and more men take to it as their cosmetic change, and are increasingly giving women a run for their money when it comes to extending their youth. Growing numbers of middle-aged men are resorting to botox to smooth away the ravages of time.

The best part about botox is that the world has younger looking men, and gone are the days when women looked young and beautiful, and the men by their side looked at least a generation older. Whether you are 18, 65 or somewhere in between, botox can be yours. In the case of many our Bollywood actors, rumour has it that their boyish good looks are a result of botox treatment.

Consultant plastic surgeon Sandeep Sardesai of Mumbai says: "Men want a strong image, and this is a subtle way of getting rid of that exhausted or angry look. I treat plenty of city types who want to look younger, because they feel the pressure of hordes of younger people behind them ready to take their places. It takes two injections to iron out lines around the eyes, while up to four shots can freeze the forehead. Effects are visible within 48 hours, but it can take five days to see the difference, which can last six months".

Botox treatment for men works by paralysing muscles underlying the areas where many early facial lines, wrinkles and creases tend to appear, such as around the eyes and on the forehead. The actual treatment involves injecting botox with a fine needle directly into the skin or muscles that create wrinkles. The whole procedure takes a few minutes and does not require anesthesia.

After being injected with botox, the muscles responsible for crow’s feet and other facial lines begin to relax. As a result, lines and wrinkles fade or disappear, and the skin takes on a smoother, younger-looking appearance. Frown lines, which can make a man look angry or upset, regardless of how he feels, can also be minimised or eliminated with botox treatment.

The treatment—which can take between four and six months—can cost up to Rs 8,000. The comfort and convenience of botox treatment have made it a popular cosmetic option for men. The procedure generally takes about 10 minutes, which allows patients to schedule appointments during their lunch hour. In addition, the injections cause only minor discomfort; the sensation is often compared to the sting of an ant bite, and usually lasts only a few seconds. There is virtually no need for recovery period after the treatment, and most clients are able to return to their normal routine immediately.

Guys who are considering botox injections should have realistic expectations about what they can accomplish. Many cosmetic surgeons have started what are called botox lounges, in which you can have the botox treatment, as if visiting a cafe. MF
