Hill farmers get to bank smart

It is a bank with a difference. The Kisan Bank that started functioning here today will act as a facilitator for farmers for their every need — seeds, loans, technical support and marketing.

Goddess Kali on yatra

While many are aware of Uttarakhand’s Nandadevi Rajaat yatra, the lesser known Kali Devra Yatra is yet another religious affair of prime importance in Devbhoomi, that signifies the role of goddesses in the daily life of hill people. Every 12 years, the Devra Yatra of Goddess Kali is taken out in the Garhwal hills of Uttarakhand.

Virasat begins today
Roorkee, January 28
A three-day long Virasat Fest is starting tomorrow at the Indian Institute of Technology. During the cultural fest many renowned artistes of the country, including Sufi Qawwal Qadar Niazi, 'veena' player Salil Bhatt (son of famous Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Grammy Award winner) and Uttarakhand folk dancer Nandlal Bharti would give live performances.

To prevent the wife and daughter of the deceased owner of White Field Estate, located near Barlowgunj here, from entering the estate, the wife of the caretaker of the estate threatened to commit suicide on Saturday.

Yoga-trained youth on fast

The dharna staged by the yoga-trained youths entered the ninth day yesterday along with Jai Prakash Kainswal staging an indefinite fast since Monday. The Yoga trained youths have been demanding employment in government schools and other government departments as Yoga teachers.

Haj Sewa Samiti protest

The Dehradun Haj Sewa Samiti held a protest at Gandhi Park, on Sunday. Led by Sufi Khaliq Ahmed, the Dehradun Haj Sewa Samiti members alleged the state BJP government for ignoring Muslim community in the works of development.
