Hebei oil spill: Family wants jailed  marine officer freed

The Sikh community in Uttarakhand has called upon the Indian government to pursue the matter of Captain Jaspreet Chawla - one of the Indian marine officers convicted for negligence in the Hebei Spirit oil spill case - with the Korean government and secure justice for him.

Roorkee IIT turns to solar energy
Roorkee, January 8
In an effort to save hefty amounts on power bills, the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, plans to use solar energy for lighting and water heating in all its hostels, departments and guest houses. As a first step in this direction, three solar heaters will be installed at the Trainee Officers' Hostel.

For Aman Rehman, an eight-year-old animation wizard from Dehradun who is the son of a motor mechanic, recognition at the international level has started pouring in even as the boy applies for an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records under the young achievers category. Aman has made over 1,000 animation movies. Aman’s father M Rehman, an illiterate scooter mechanic who supports his wife and three children, claims that his son is the youngest wizkid and is very hopeful that it is only a matter of time that Aman gets an entry into the Guinness Book as the youngest computer wizkid in the world.

NGO seeks adequate rehabilitation
Dehradun, January 8
In line with the National Rehabilitation Policy, 2007, ‘Raksha Sutra and Nadi Bachao’ organisation of Uttarkashi have prepared an agenda for the state government to rehabilitate people who have been uprooted from their houses due to the ongoing 200 hydro projects on various rivers in the state. The agenda contains a summary of all the problems that are affecting the lives of people in such areas, which are also prone to floods and earthquakes.

Maroj fest from today
Mussoorie, January 8
Folk dances, songs and traditional cuisine of Jaunpur, Jaunsar and Rawaii regions of Uttarakhand would be on display in Mussoorie on January 9. This is being done through the efforts of Aglar Yamuna Ghati Vikas Manch.
