THE world is reeling under recession. The industry, too, is not doing well either. But suddenly the footwear industry got a shot in the arm, thanks to an Iraqi journalist, who hurled a pair of shoes at US president George W. Bush during a press conference. Now, Iraqi shoes are in the limelight. The US President took the incident quite humourously claiming, "it was a size 10". This also proves the point that politicians are quick at guessing the size of the shoes when thrown at them in public meetings. Any seasoned politician can proudly say, "Hawa mein udte joote ka size pad lete hain." (We can read the size of the flying shoe). Mr Bush said there was nothing to worry about because back home in America he was used to facing even uglier protests. If this is an indication of growing democracy, then more of shoe throwing should be encouraged. The shoemakers will come up with new designs to be thrown at political leaders. The best and cheap shoes will be available for hurling at the leaders on your hate list. At political rallies, security people at the entry points will ensure only branded shoes are hurled at top leaders. Companies like Nike may change their tag line from ‘Just do it’ to ‘Just hurl it.’ Leader of a political party was delivering a speech when people started throwing shoes at him. He was able to duck a few, while he caught about a dozen. He then shouted, "Dear friends, if you want to throw, please throw the whole pair of shoes of both the feet. Only the left or right of a pair of shoes are of no use to me".
