Chandigarh, December 9 The forum has also asked the company to pay Rs 25,000 in compensation and Rs 5,500 towards litigation costs to Rashmi Mittal of Phase V, Mohali. She claimed that she was supposed to get possession of the house by October, 2007, after which her son’s ring ceremony was to take place in November, 2007, followed by his marriage in March, 2008. However, despite payment of all installments by the insurance company to the developer, the flat was not ready and the ring ceremony was cancelled. Deepak, her son and the sole breadwinner of the family, died in a road accident in February, 2008. This was communicated to the IHFL by Mittal with a request for returning property documents against which loan was extended, but nothing happened. Orbit Apartments in its reply stated it had no objection in handing over the possession if the balance amount was paid and the IHFL permitted the transfer of the flat in the complainant’s name. Review petition over bail of accused dismissed
Panchkula, December 9 Ahuja was granted bail by the same court on November 1. The application seeking the cancellation of bail came for arguments before the judge who dismissed it finding no new grounds in it. The victim, a 17-year-old student of a local school, was allegedly kidnapped and raped on the evening of September 16. She named Jatin and Chhavi in her complaint, stating that three other boys were also involved. Later, the police arrested Ahuja, a resident of Sector 10, in the case on September 20, followed by the arrest of Jitesh, another accused, a resident of Sector 4. While the petition for bail filed by Jitesh was denied, Ahuja managed to get bail on November 1. The court, while granting bail to Ahuja, observed that he along with his co-accused Jatin and another boy had been physical with the victim forcibly on the evening of September 16 this year as per the police report. Contrary to that, the FIR dated September 18 and statements of the complainant under Section 164 of the CrPC before Judicial Magistrate Monica on September 20 clearly shows that the complainant has not named Ahuja anywhere therein with respect to his presence or participation in the incident that occurred on September 16. The Judge observed that the complainant knew Ahuja very well as both of them signed on a document of a compromise on September 9 last year. The judge added that under these circumstances, if the victim, in her complaint, said that Jatin, along with two boys whom she did not know, had committed rape on her, the possibility of the presence of the accused, Ahuja, did not arise as the victim knew him, and he would have been named specifically by the complainant. In her review application, the mother of the victim said the police did not represent the case before the court properly. She, pleading to consider the cancellation of bail to Ahuja, said the police manipulated the facts before the court to help the accused get early bail. And it was because of this fact that she had already filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking the probe in the case by an independent agency. |

Tents still on at PU
Chandigarh, December 9 While it’s been almost two days that those at the helm of matters are yet to take down the tents put up on the sports ground for the games. “We have already cleared the cups and other litter today and will remove the other remaining things too.” commented Naval Kishore, dean students’ welfare (DSW). It may be noted that right from the day of its commencement the games have been in news for all wrong reasons, as various universities norms were openly flouted and authorities never cared to check. The ground facing student centre is still being used by the forest department of Punjab, as their tents have covered the ground. Nidhi a student said, “These people disturbed us in our study and played music the whole day. Now the tents are still lying on the grounds. It seems the university authorities are least bothered about the whole matter.” Now that the games are over, it seems that the authorities have not even paid a single visit to the site. |
