OYE pata hai main kaun hoon?" (Do you know who I am?) A young boy was threatening a traffic policeman, who had stopped the boy for not wearing the helmet while driving a bike. "I am the son of the Deputy Commissioner of your city." Most of the time it is not the person, who holds an important post but their kin, friends or PAs, who wield more power than the boss himself. I have seen senior government servants walking saying, "I have a gastric problem so I prefer walking back home." But the problem is that his sarkari car had been hijacked by his wife for going shopping. Sometimes the situation is just the reverse. In Haryana, 30 per cent of the woman sarpanches are just in name only. They simply convey the decisions made by their sons or husbands. If it is true, then it is shameful for Haryanvi women because women always are in a more commanding position than their husbands even if the men are commanding officers of their battalion. But the husbands of these woman sarpanches must get some bravery awards for flaunting power and roaming about with their moustaches up in spite of their wives being more powerful on paper.
