Govt releases funds for ayurvedic hospital
Patiala, November 19 The 106-bed hospital was neglected after the pharmacy was closed because of paucity of funds. The number of patients both in the indoor ward and outdoor department had registered a steep fall, as there were no medicines available. Dr B.K. Kaushik, medical superintendent of the hospital, told The Tribune that the Punjab government had recently released funds following which the pharmacy had reopened and ayurvedic medicines were now available for indoor patients. He said the hospital had sought a grant and the Punjab government had made part payment against this demand. Many indoor wards had almost no admissions for months together. The situation was worst in 2002 when free diet system for indoor patients scrapped. The doctors and paramedical staff did not have much to do following the decline in the number of patients. The indoor wards of the hospital are still neglected. The building has not been painted for years. Dr Kaushik said number of patients was likely to pick up now, as 16 more doctors, including surgeons, specialists, ENT had been posted to the hospital along with Panchkarma and Charak of the ayurvedic medicines. Kaushik further said the hospital was entering into arrangement with temples and gurdwaras for supplying meals to indoor patients. He said the number of patients coming to the OPD daily had gone up from 70 to 80 till a couple of months back to 125 now. The number would increase in the coming months, he added. However, he was worried about the shortage of dispensaries in the hospital. Out of 17 dispensaries, eight had been shifted and this had affected the hospital working. Kaushik further said he hoped the operation theatre had already functioned with the number of patients reporting at the hospital improving. Dr Kaushik said with a view to popularising ayurvedic medicines, the hospital had started organising medical camp. |

Dasmesh Enclave residents stage dharna
Kharar, November 19 Area residents Amarjeet Kaur, Preetam Singh and Savinder said around five years ago, Star Colonizers handed over a big portion of his colony's land to adjacent private coloniser, Bajwa Developers, and the stretch was included in Sunny Enclave. At that time, the management of Sunny Enclave had installed a gate on the road that was opened every morning and closed at night. Six months ago, the Sunny Enclave authorities closed the gate by erecting a wall, thereby closing this passage. The area residents apprised Kharar SDM Rajiv Kumar Gupta and the municipal council authorities of this episode. Around a month ago, Kharar municipal council took over Sunny Enclave. On the orders of the MC authorities, the wall constructed by the Sunny Enclave authorities was knocked down, so that passage could be opened again. "But the Sunny Enclave authorities refused to open the gate. Later, we came to know that the piece of land lying adjacent to gate towards Sunny Enclave has been sold as a plot," said the area residents. Today, the Sunny Enclave authorities had tried to re-construct the wall, following which residents of Dasmesh Enclave sat on the dharna and opposed the construction. AME of the Kharar municipal council Baldev Verma met both parties. He said Sunny Enclave's map had been approved by PUDA and there was a plot of Sunny Enclave at the gate, which cannot be tampered with. It was amicably decided that Sunny Enclave will leave separate place for passage to the Dasmesh Enclave area residents. At last, by late evening, the Sunny Enclave authorities had given way for passage to Dasmesh Enclave by knocking down wall constructed on another road. |

Violation of Building Bylaws Swati Sharma Tribune News Service
Chandigarh, November 19 Kutty of the Indian Coffee House has filed a petition against the defendants — Anil Kaur and fours others — wherein he has sought for directions to be issued to the defendants to submit the revised building plan in terms of the rules regulations of Capital of Punjab Act and to regularise violations as per the directions of estate officer. He stated that the corporation had been running the renowned Indian Coffee House since 1964 from the ground floor portion of shop-cum-office (SCO) 12 in Sector 17. The defendant, Anil Kaur, a resident of Panchkula, had given the premises on lease for running the Coffee House. The defendant applied for occupation certificate of the site in question whereby the estate office informed the owner of the SCO that the temporary structure of the rear courtyard might be made permanent under the sanctioned plan. Subsequently, the temporary structure was made permanent by the defendant and handed over to the plaintiffs. The plaintiffs received a show-cause notice from the estate office wherein it was mentioned that the rear store at the ground floor used as kitchen was against the plan. Even cabins made on the first, second and third floor were unauthorised. During the pendency of the matter in the estate office, the counsel for defendants sent a notice to the plaintiffs that Rajneesh Bansal, Brinda Chadha, Sandeep Bansal and Harmohinder Singh had become owners of the site on the basis of court decree and requested the plaintiffs to make the payment of rent directly to them. Kutty asserted in the petition that they had been tenants in the site and there were no building violations in it. He claimed that the defendant was abusing the process of law and wanted to evict the plaintiff through abuse of process of law. The plaintiffs thus sought the court to pass a decree of mandatory injunction directing the defendants to submit the revised building plan under the rules and regulations. The plaintiffs further stated that the assistant estate officer on August 22 had issued directions to get the violations regularised in accordance with the building bylaws pertaining to the property in question. |
