WHEN it was launched in 2006, no one gave much chance to Travel & Living, the lifestyle channel from Discovery Communication India. But two years down the line it has a robust though niche viewership, especially of foodies. In fact food programmes like its India-specific shows Indian Food Made Easy have caught the imagination of young upwardly mobile couples that make it a point to watch them together. The male viewership of these cookery shows has been steadily increasing. Other food related shows on the channel like Hell’s Kitchen, Kylie Kwong: Cooking with Heart and Soul and Nigella Feasts are high on the popularity list. Apart from being a foodie’s delight, other shows like the Great Indian Wedding, anchored by the likes of actor Konkana Sen Sharma, singer Vasundhara Das and filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor have had the viewers glued. Programmes like the Indian Rendezvous — travelogues on the historical Indian cities too have been attracting audience. The channel has now planned a slew of India-specific lifestyle shows which it feels will guarantee an even more upscale viewership. — NF
