Patiala, October 30 Stating this to The Tribune here today, Ajit Pal Singh Kohli, mayor of Patiala, said the tubewell near the Elementary School had been developing one problem or the other and in view of this the corporation had proposed to have a new tubewell installed in the colony. The Chandigarh Tribune had highlighted in these columns on October 10 and October 30 the problem of muddy water and low pressure of water in Rajpura Colony. Some residents of the colony had complained that they had been getting muddy water in their taps from the Elementary School tubewell. They also complained that every time the tubewell developed a problem, the water pressure in their taps fell. Arun Tiwari, SDO of water supply of the municipal corporation, today told The Tribune that a new tubewell with 25 hp motor had been readied in Vikas Colony, which was adjoining Rajpura Colony, and it was likely to be commissioned shortly. He said the Elementary School tubewell had been supplying water with sand since the motor there was of higher horse power and it sucked mud which went into the water pipes. Tiwari said the corporation proposed to have a motor of 15 hp instead of the existing 20 hp at the Elementary School tubewell. This would ensure that there was no problem of sand and mud in the Rajpura Colony locality. Tiwari said the Vikas Colony tubewell had been readied at a cost of Rs 16 lakh and was waiting to get an electricity connection. He said it was expected to be commissioned early next month. This would increase the water pressure in the Rajpura Colony area. Additionally, it had also been proposed to set up a new tubewell on the main line in the Rajpura Colony area with a view to increase water pressure and to ensure quality water supply. He said the proposed tubewell would supply about 30,000 gallons of water every day. |
