Solan land deal under scanner
Chandigarh, September 30 Permission was reportedly granted to 18 persons, including Justice Nirmal Yadav of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, to buy land at Rihun village near Solan. It is alleged that the money sent by co-accused Ravinder Singh, through former law officer-cum-prime accused Sanjeev Bansal, was meant for the purchase of this land. The money had erroneously landed at the house of Justice Nirmaljit Kaur. It was on the basis of a complaint forwarded on her behest that a case was initially registered by the Chandigarh police. The matter was subsequently transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). As the committee met at the UT guest house on the second day of the inquiry today, Himachal Pradesh officers, involved in the process of granting permission, were reportedly examined. The exact number of officers called for the inquiry and the statements made by them before the panel is not known because of the “closed chamber” nature of proceedings. But it is believed that as many as three officers from the revenue and other departments were questioned at length by the panel. The officers were reportedly of subdivisional and tehsildar level. An elderly couple, reportedly the landowners, too was examined by the panel, comprising Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Hemant Laxman Gokhale, Gujarat High Court Chief Justice K.S Radhakrishnan and Justice Madan B. Lokur of the Delhi High Court. The Himachal Pradesh government has already marked an inquiry to the state’s joint secretary (Revenue). The directions were issued after it came to the fore that the Himachal Pradesh Land Reforms and Tenancy Act-1972 had allegedly been violated, while granting sanction for the purchase of the land. As the day progressed, the panel also examined property dealer-cum-co accused Rajeev Gupta. His name was initially used by Bansal to create an alibi after his clerk was handed over to the police on the instructions of Justice Nirmaljit Kaur. Though again the details of his contentions before the panel are unknown, it is believed that Gupta gave details of Bansal’s association and his other activities. The Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association, through president Rupinder Khosla, also met the panel to convey its desire to take the matter to a logical conclusion at the earliest. Available information suggests the first round of inquiry is over with the examination of over almost 14 witnesses and accused. The committee is expected to leave the city on Wednesday by the morning flight, but may meet again to seek the assistance of Justice Nirmal Yadav and examine Ravinder Singh. |

These groups thus prepare them to face team competition as well as individual competition.” He further added that, “Apart from a regular warm-up session in the morning and basketball skill coaching training in the evening, a health athlete programme to test their fitness and a diet plan is also provided to them free of cost.” Disappointed with the authorities who fail to recognise the achievements of these special athletes, Dr Anil Sharma, head coach of cricket team of Special Olympics-2007 in the World Summer games, said, “It is not the participation certificate that matters, it is the awareness, recognition and proper funds, which would lead them to the real victory in their lives.” |
