The two-and-half-minute video featuring Hollywood heartthrob Monroe and co-stars Tony Curtis and Jack Lemon was shot early in 1959 by a young US naval officer, who had been invited by Monroe to visit her sets at the hotel Del Coronado. “The 8mm film is still in its original Kodak box and includes candid images on the set of Some Like It Hot which later turned out to be one of the greatest American comedy film of all time,” said Charles Leski of the Leski auctioneers. The film was found still in its original box among the sailer’s possessions and brought to Australia when she immigrated here. The footage will be auctioned off in Melbourne later this month and is expected to fetch between $20-30,000 (Aus), according to the auctioneers. Earlier this year, an amateur film of Monroe on the sets of Misfits, sold in America for $60,000. “Marilyn Monroe’s memorabilia is always in demand, but rarely do we get one-off material like this,” Leskie said.
