Gandhi today spoke to Ratan Tata and requested him not to
shift the Tata Motors Nano car project from Singur. He told
Tata that he was negotiating with the state government and the
farmers’ representatives for solving the Singur problem
within the next few days.
No
nuke trade if India tests: US The Bush
administration has assured members of Congress that the US has
the right to terminate nuclear commerce with India in the
event of a nuclear test by New Delhi, according to a
correspondence revealed this week. The State Department made
this assurance in a January 16 letter to Democratic
Congressman Tom Lantos, who was at the time chairman of the
House Foreign Affairs Committee.

offers to repair barrage on Kosi New Delhi, September 3 In
an important decision, the Central Government today offered to repair
the breached Bheem barrage on river Kosi, with the help of Army
engineers and the Border Road Organisation (BRO). The breach has caused
a lot of damage in northern Bihar.

Cabinet
to take up inflation today New Delhi, September 3
The government has decided to
discuss measures to tackle inflation and this will be the agenda for the
Cabinet meeting to be held on Thursday. There have been studies by major
domestic and international firms warning the government that inflation
may reach up to 15-17 per cent. The CCP to be chaired by Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh may also review difference in the minimum support price
of different commodities and the market rates, sources said.
