Raima on a roll
As an actor,
every type of cinema is important for me whether it is
commercial or offbeat, says Raima Sen in a chat with Bedika
Bengali
beauty
Raima Sen is all set to let her hair down in her forthcoming
comedy flick in an attempt to break the "serious
actress" tag. Raima hopes that Bollywood masala films will
help her shed the image of a serious actor as she doesn’t like
being marked as an actor who can do only a particular kind of
cinema.
"As an actor,
every type of cinema is important for me whether it is
commercial or offbeat. I do not like being attached to any
particular image. All I want is to be remembered as a good
actor," says Raima.
Talking about her
transition from serious roles to comedy, the actress says,
"My last Bollywood film Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd was also
a comedy, though my character in the film was subtle."
Raima hopes that her first solo appearance in Balaji Motion
Pictures’ comedy flick C Kkompany clicks with audiences as
well.
"People want
to watch films which can bring a smile on their face. I hope
people will be able to relate to this fun film," she says.
The actress hopes
that C Kkompany will be a refreshing opportunity after her
serious films.
"After
playing mature and offbeat characters in films, this is a
character of my age for the first time," she says.
Talking about her
character in the film, she further says, "I play Tusshar
Kapoor’s love interest and gangster Mithun Chakraborty’s
sister in the film. This is an absolute comedy which centres
around the lives of three middle class men."
Raima has
established herself as a leading actress in the Bengali film
industry with films like Chokher Bali, Antar Mahal, Swapner Din
but her rise in the Bollywood has been slightly slow despite her
impressive performances in films like Daman, Parineeta and
Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd.
"Filmmaking
process in Bengal is very fast and I got some very good roles
there. But my Bollywood career is also shaping up well,"
says Raima.
Apart from working
in C Kkompany, Raima is also doing a film with Randeep Hooda
Mere Khawaboo Main Jo Aaye, Mumbai Cutting and Aparna Sen’s
Bengali film Japanese wife with Rahul Bose.
The actor will be
seen for the first time together with Riya Sen in Rituparno
Ghosh’s Nauka Dubi. The Bengali film is based on an adaptation
of Rabindranath Tagore’s novel by the same name. "We are
working together for the first time in a film but we are not
sisters in it. I would not be able to reveal much about the
film. All I can say is that the film is a period drama but Ritu
da has given it a modern touch," she says.
When asked about
the frequent comparisons made between herself and her
grandmother, the legendary actor Suchitra Sen, Raima says,
"It is absolutely flattering to be compared to my
grandmother. It is a great compliment but there is no comparison
between me and my grandmother. She is a legend." — PTI
