New clear deal
Jaspal Bhatti

THE words ‘deal’ and ‘dealers’ constitute our routine vocabulary now. "Bhai sahib aap ki income tax walon se deal ho gai thi? (Did you strike a deal with income tax people)" or "I will introduce you to somebody, who could help you hammer a deal with the minister concerned" are a few of the phrases heard quite frequently. At any given moment, according to my knowledge of physics and corruption put together, 10D-23-D millions deals are struck in India where ‘D’ is the dishonesty factor of the nation at that time.

The latest of the famous deals is the Indo-US nuclear deal. For the BJP and the Left parties it is a ‘no clear deal’. But taking into account Dr Manmohan Singh’s zero dishonesty factor the deal is clearly to solve the energy crisis of India. However, the Left and BJP feel that they have enough energy to topple the government. I asked a political leader his views about the nuclear deal, he said, "It will be very harmful for the nation." I said, "How?" He said if the government didn't fall over the deal it would naturally be harmful for his party and subsequently for the nation.

An opposition leader was heard claiming Rs 25 crore was the rate for Independent MPs, who wanted to support the UPA. If it is true, then it is, in fact, the ‘new clear deal’. The clauses and nitty-gritty of the nuclear deal may be ambiguous, but the ‘new clear deal’ is crystal clear to everyone.
