Penaz Masani delights audience
Chandigarh, July 1 The vivacious and pulsating Penaz commenced the programme with an invocatory recital of ‘Ganesh Vandana’ in raga ‘yaman’, creating a depth feeling of spirituality. Maintaining the essence of raga, she delineated the philosophical content laced in Nida Fazli’s ghazal ‘Awaazon ke bazaaron mein khamoshi pehchaane kaun’. She recited her first ever ghazal ‘Dil mein rakh lo mujhe’, recorded way back in 1981, which she embellished with a sonorous alaap weaved in raga Bagesheri. Interspersing her recital with relevant Urdu couplets, she established an instant rapport with audience making them sing with her. She followed the mood and thematic content of ghazals which melted into old film songs like ‘Ye raatein ye mausam’, ‘Dil cheez kya hai’, ‘Chalte chalte’ and others. The immaculate renditions of different genre compositions, replete with romantic fervour and melodic appeal, however, stamped her versatility. She concluded the recital with the most boisterous, ‘Dama dam mast qalander’ enjoined by the audience. Ajay Swaroop, CGM, honoured Penaz and her accompanying artistes. |
