Traffic chaos rules Patiala roads
Patiala, June 21 Not only the city residents, even the outsiders, who come from far-off places to buy stuff like clothes, jewellery, juttis etc for which the city is famous, suffer traffic pangs. The city has a number of popular markets like Dharampura Bazaar, Adalat Bazaar and Tripuri market that attract customers in large numbers. Though there is parking space at a few markets, yet it is insufficient to accommodate the large influx of vehicles. Markets like Churri (bangle) Bazaar, Lahori Gate and Nabha Gate are so congested that one finds it difficult to cross the roads in these markets even on two-wheelers. Near the bus stand, some of the shopkeepers have encroached upon a part of the road. As a result the road has become so congested that there are long traffic jams. Rickshaws and three-wheelers plying on this road further add to the chaos. Since there is no arrangement of parking in most of the markets, the customers have to park their vehicles in front of the shops. This adds to congestion and hence chaos. This is not all, a large number of vendors have also occupied a part of the road in front of Gurdwara Dukhnivaran Sahib. Residents feel that the administration should take strict measures to check traffic congestion. It should either ban the entry of vehicles into the markets or provide suitable parking lots. |
