Ready to serve

Sahib ke liye garma-garam chai lao." Who wouldn’t like to be welcomed with a hot cup of tea? Even those who are not great ones for tea feel special and cared for. Garma garam also means fresh.

When a newspaper editor asks a reporter what’s hot today, he doesn’t mean he wants garma-garam samosas to be served with fresh chutney. Fresh vegetables, sizzling steak, puffed chapattis and the latest rumours are always welcome everywhere.

Now imagine an examiner telling the students during the board examinations. "In a short while, you will be served with the most fresh question papers which will be printed in front of your eyes. I am sure it is not a very appetising announcement for the students who are dependent on leaked papers. But some institutions, including Bangalore University, are thinking of using a technology where coded question papers will be transmitted to the examination centres.

My nephew, who shows no interest in studies, suddenly started putting in long hours studying computers. When asked why he didn’t study other subjects, he said, "If I am able to decode the language and manage to get all the papers leaked well in advance, then why study all subjects?"
