THE long-legged Sophie Choudry is a woman of substance. A gold medallist both from the London School of Economics and the London Academy of Music and Dramatics, she has been creating ripples as VJ, music video performer and has also successfully forayed into the world of films.

She’s now all set to make a big splash on the small screen with a reality show on MTV. Another thing that has been keeping her busy is her new yet untitled new album.

In fact, music has ruled her life ever since she migrated from London to Mumbai. Along with with music director Biddu, she set up a band called Sansara and wrote the lyrics for its hit debut album Yeh Dil Sun Raha Hai and the very popular Habibi. But, the all-girl band disintegrated and Sophie went solo. Here, too, she struck gold as her first solo album Le Le Dil Mera won the UK Asian Pop Award for Best Female Debut. Her next album Pardesi too was a super hit. And she hopes to repeat the feat with her forthcoming album as well.

IN his day, he may have been the most menacing villain of the big screen. But when it comes to the small screen Mukesh Rishi has only heroes in mind. The film baddie-turned-television anchor is hosting a new show War Heroes on Mondays at 10.30 pm on the newly launched news channel, India News.

The show is about nameless and faceless sentinels of India’s borders, always on call to defend the country. Each episode is dedicated to one soldier. It takes viewers to the war-ravaged areas where soldiers have fought relentlessly without caring about their lives. The programme visits the soldier’s home to recount his memories.

Says Mukesh Rishi "I salute these martyrs and appeal to viewers to come to the aid of these bereaved families."

At a time when a career in the defence forces is not considered attractive, the programme serves as a timely reminder about the importance of the armed forces and how they selflessly serve the country. NF
