Crop reduced to ashes in Ambala, Kharar
Ambala, April 20 According to the information, 20 acres belonging to Chetan Singh and three others was burnt in Nakatpur village. Nirmal Singh’s 17 acre was also destroyed in the fire. Similarly, around 60 acre was burnt in Motamakra, Khanna Majra and Humayunpur villages. The fire tenders were summoned from Ambala and Punjab but before the arrival of the fire tenders, the crops turned into ashes. The victims demanded compensation for the damage. Meanwhile in Kharar, the series of standing crop getting damaged due to short circuit continues in village around Kharar. Standing crops in fields of Saidpur village caught fire today damaging 16.5 acres of area. The incident took place at around 11.30 am, when some villagers saw thick clouds of smoke emanating from a part of fields on the village periphery. Till the time villagers got together and started rescue work, fire had caused damaged in 16.5 acres of area. Around 16 acres of land of Rajinder Singh and two acres of Charan Singh had been gutted in fire. The wheat crop had already been harvested from this piece of land. Standing crop in 4.5 acres of land got damaged in the incident. Tarlochan Singh from Landran had taken this land on lease. Majat police post in-charge Bawa Singh said short circuit was the possible reason behind
this fire. Similarly, standing crop in six acres of land in Khanpur village was gutted in fire yesterday. Four acres of it belonged to nambardar Kesar Singh and two acres were of Saroop Singh. |

Chandumajra slams Capt, Bhattal
Patiala, April 20 Addressing a press conference, he added that now it had become clear that both leaders had given shelter to terrorists during the days of militancy in Punjab. He said the case of sheltering terrorists should be handed over to the CBI for further investigations. Chandumajra said due to the infighting among the Congress rank and file in the state, the SAD-BJP combine would sweep the block samiti and zila parishad elections slated to be held on May 12. He added that the Congress was not doing the right thing by going in for a “chakka
jaam” on April 22 and added that it was for the FCI to pick the stocks of wheat from the mandis. |

Husband, in-laws booked for dowry
Kharar, April 20 Charanjit Kaur had alleged that her husband and his paternal uncle and aunt used to harass her for dowry. In her complaint to the SSP, Mohali, on September 2, 2007, Charanjit Kaur had stated that she got married to Mandeep Singh alias Goldy on November 3, 2006. After few months of marriage, her husband and in-laws started demanding dowry from her. They forced her to bring papers of land inherited from her father. The matter was amicably settled with relatives’ intervention. Her brother Paramjeet Singh gave Rs 1 lakh cash to her in-laws. Later in September last year, the discords again brew up amidst couple and Charanjit came back to her brother’s place. The police have booked Charanjit’s husband Mandeep, his uncle Harnek Singh and aunt Tejinder Kaur. |

Former minister’s relative commits suicide
Bassi Pathana, April 20 According to the FIR registered with Bassi Pathana police, Navinderjit Singh alias Navi was in search of a suitable job for the last one year and he was mentally tense. On April 19, his motorcycle and mobile phone was found on the bank of Bhakra Canal near Ferozepur village. After the recovery of these items, family members got suspicious and started searching for his body in the canal. Last night, his body was recovered from Sondha head. |
Chemist shops in hospitals
Patiala, April 20 The association said the decision was neither in the interest of the ailing humanity nor the public at large. The president of the association Surjit Mehta added that as per the Drug Price Control Order (DPCO) Act, the retailer was allowed a margin of 15 to 20 per cent on the branded drugs. “ How these chemist shops will offer a discount of 20 to 25 per cent to the patients is beyond our knowledge. It appears that the government is encouraging the private sector to indulge in malpractice,” he added. |

MCM Blue Caps Academy drub Shree Shree Academy
Chandigarh, April 20 In other matches, hosts GNPS-CCA team got the better of Sector 16 Cricket Stadium by five wickets, whereas GNPS-B team beat Apeejay School, Kharar. In the fourth match of the day, Sector 16 Cricket Stadium team was declared winner against Mohali Cricket Academy team on the average basis of 10 overs. The match had to stop due to honeybees attack on players. Earlier, during the match between MCM and Shree Shree team, the latter team scored paltry 56 all out in 20 overs. Ravi wrecked the batting line up, claiming three wickets for 16 while Shubham got two wickets for 19. Harshit (17) and Rizul (10) were the main scorers for the team. In reply, MCM Blue chased the target in just 4 overs with the unbeaten knocks of 33 and 14 runs by Karan Khosla and Ravi. In another match, batting first, the Stadium 16 team earned meager 97 runs in the allotted 20 overs. It was Amrinder, who put on 21, the highest score for the team. Niwansh scored 15 runs while Nipun made 11. Tavneet, Arpit, Arjit and Sanjog were the successful bowlers as all clamed two wickets each. GNPS chased the target, scoring 98 runs in 18 overs for the loss of five wickets. Shivam Bhambri proved the key player as he chipped in half century (52) to help the team to reach the target, another batsman Arpit Singh contributed 25 runs. Sajid took two for 21 while Naveen got one for 12 for Stadium 16 team. In another low scoring match between GNPS-B team and Apeejay School, Kharar at GNPS, Sector 36 grounds, the latter brushed out the former team on paltry 55 all out in allotted 20 overs and chased the target in just 10 overs. The other match between Sector 16 team and Mohali Cricket Association team had to stop midway as the honeybees attacked the players all of a sudden. MCA set a target of 111 for the Sector 16 team. The batting of Sector 16 was in progress when the match had to be stopped. Though the budding players were saved but the coach of Sector 16 Stadium, Sanjeev Pathania, was stung badly by the bees. He was taken to the General Hospital, Sector 16, for treatment, from where he was discharged after two hours. Sector 16 team was declared winner on the

Naveen scripts NIT’s victory
Chandigarh, April 20 While Thapar College, Patiala, thrashed SLIET Longowal College by 10 wickets. Earlier, batting first, NIT Kurukshetra made 187 for 8 in the allotted 25 overs. Naveen, the highest scorer, chipped in 77 runs. He was well supported by Hitesh Gupta 33. In reply, PEC was restricted to 183 for 7 in the allotted overs. Gaurav Chopra made 73 runs while Simaranjit contributed 42 runs. But that was not proved enough to clinch the title. Displaying top class bowling, Hitesh snapped four for 24. In their match, Thapar, Patiala, reached the target of 100 without losing a wicket. SLIET scored 99 all out in 21 over as Pardeep hit 21 runs and Suresh made 17. For Thapar, Manmohan (3 for 3) and Jatin (3 for 20) emerged successful bowlers. With the help of Navi 44 not out and Manish 39 not out knocks, Thapar reached 100 for no loss. Man killed in accident
Chandigarh, April 20 A critically injured Habiz was shifted to the PGI immediately after the accident, where he succumbed to his injuries late at night. According to the police, the accident took place when the Tata Safari (PB-25-F-2999), driven by Parminder Singh of Sirhind, hit the motorcyclist from the rear. Habiz lost his balance and fell and in the process sustained multiple injuries. Habiz was on his way to the Sector 16 Government Multi Speciality Hospital when the mishap took place. He was a labour contractor and is survived by his wife and three children. |

Chandigarh, April 20 The competition, which has been going on since the first week of April, got an overwhelming response. As many as 113 entries, including six from school students, 37 from college students
and 16 from professionals/amateurs, were received today. The participants were
given four hours and were allowed to use any medium. The fourth series of the competition will be held at Rose Garden/Shanti Kunj on April 27. |
