A lifetime to literature

Dr Sansar Chandra, the eminent Sanskrit scholar, has been awarded the Haryana Sahitya Rattan Samman instituted by the Haryana Sahitya Akademi. He is the first recipient of this award which carries a cash prize of Rs two lakh. It has been conferred on Dr Sansar Chandra for his life-long contribution to literature. He has guided 98 Ph.Ds, supervised 15 D litts and written more than 50 books in Hindi, Sanskrit, English, Dogri and Punjabi. Besides this, two books have been written on him. Exacting discipline defines his life. Even when he is pushing 90, he sits in study from 9 to 5 religiously. "I want to die with a pen in my hand," says the writer.
