The director tells V. Ananth that he is geared up for a romantic comedy AFTER Heyy Babyy, Sajid Khan is planning to direct a romantic comedy, once again with Akshay Kumar in the lead. Besides Akshay, his film will have three more top leading women. "It is important that my second film should be bigger at the box office than my debut film as a director, because very few directors’ second film has clicked like Farah Khan, Shimit Amin, Raju Hirani, Rakesh Roshan, Sooraj Barjatya etc", says Sajid. Contrary to speculations, Sajid insists that he has not signed Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone or Vidya Balan for his next film, though they are all his friends. "Each role is equally important in my film. I will zero in one any three of them depending upon who is able to give me her dates. Though Heyy Babyy did not have too much of romance, my next one will have", he quips.
In Heyy Babyy instead of casting comedians, you made your heroes do comedy? "I love comedians like Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal and Johny Lever but I did not want to break the purity of my film and wanted only my heroes to do comedy in Heyy Babyy. My second film, however, will have a lot of comedians. I plan to release my film by mid-2009". According to Sajid, Akshay Kumar is a bad addiction, which is very difficult to get rid of. "Akshay believes in the dictum that work is worship. Akshay is going to be the rock star in 2008 with almost six films of his releasing like Singh Is Kinng, Tashan, Chandni Chowk Se China Tak, Eight By Ten`A0and Kambakt Ishq. I am living proof of the fact that Akshay does not at all edit the scenes of his co-stars. If he had as the media alleges he is, do you think Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor would have stood out in Welcome? According to Sajid, he cast Shahrukh Khan in a small role in Heyy Babyy because it was his desire to say ‘action and cut’ to Shahrukh Khan, who is a dear friend, in his very first film as a director. He denies any possibility of Farah Khan and him working together in a film "Though Farah and I love each other; the fact is that the Pandavas and the Kauravas will never be able to work together. On the sets we just cannot be yet another Abbas-Mustan because hum ek doosre ka khoon pe jaayenge". Sajid is also acting in a new film which is in the genre of films like Bheja Fry. "It is a small budget film. However I am not interested in grabbing films as an actor, because I do not want to be a Satish Kaushik or for that matter a Mahesh Manjrekar". Besides this film, Sajid says that he turned down an offer to play a leading man in a four-hero project, though the director told him that he would re-launch him as an actor after Jhooth Bole Kauwwa Kaate because he wanted him to dole out his dates in June, July and August when he was committed to shoot his film with Akshay. "Money isn’t an issue as far as I am concerned", says Sajid. "I was offered a Rs 12 crore to direct a film after Heyy Babyy, but I declined because morally, mentally and legally I am attached to Sajid Nadiadwala because he made a film with me when no one had trust in me," says Sajid who has turned 37 this year. Sajid adds that he has chosen to remain a bachelor, because, according to him, he is a very complicated person. "I am on the lookout for a girl who will be ready to adjust with me and who does not drink and who loves movies. Though I have been smoking a lot of cigarettes for the last 20 years, of late I have reduced my intake". — MF
