BPO boom bites NCC too With an aim to cash-in the vast job opportunities created by the booming BPO sector, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) has introduced English-speaking courses in its curriculum to help its trainees gain employment. The organisation has already trained 40 of its officers to teach the students speak fluent English. "We are aiming to sharpen the English-speaking skills of the cadets so as to help them get employment in the BPO sector," NCC director-general Prakash S. Chaudhary said in New Delhi recently. The BPO sector will generate over five lakh jobs in next couple of years and the NCC which has a cadet strength of 13 lakhs must seize the opportunity, he said. "We want to develop a pool of highly trained, motivated English-speaking youth," he said. Lt-Gen Chaudhary said a career counselling programme has also been started in all 94 group headquarters across the country to guide the cadets in choosing suitable professions. "Youths in rural areas do not have much idea about available employment opportunities in various fields. So our counsellors will guide them in this direction," he said. Nearly 300 officers have already been trained by well-known professionals in the field who would in turn help the cadets in channelising into various professions. "This endeavour will benefit the youth in gaining suitable employment," Lt Gen Chaudhary said, adding "we do not want our boys and girls to learn only drill." — PTI
