The BMC in Mumbai is thinking of going vertical after experimenting with underground parking lots. Parking is becoming a hell of a problem in every city with the ever-increasing number of vehicles on the road. No wonder one day you’ll hear of a car company offering you a month’s free parking pass for major shopping centres in the city on buying a new car. In Mumbai, they are planning to have a 25-storey parking lot. But I’m sure soon even 100-storey parking lots would fall short of the demand. Getting to your destination may require less than an hour, but finding a parking that too on the 70th or 80th floor would need more than four hours. Deccan or Kingfisher may step in to start a helicopter service to lift your vehicle directly to the 90th floor to save time. The next step would be to offer entertaining schemes and packages to those struggling to reach the upper levels. Right from the first floor to the 100th level, cheerleaders would dance around your car, get lunch, dinner and refreshments from time to time. Park’n’ Fun packages could become much sought after. Once a beggar was begging in the marketplace. Memsahib, garib aadmi ko paanch rupaye de do. Bhagwan aapko phatafat parking dilwaye. The woman gave him Rs 10 instead.
