S.K. Setia, who was the chief guest on the occasion, alongwith teachers and students participated in laughter yoga exercises. Laughter meditation, Dr Kataria suggested, should be performed in a quiet private place where one can sit or lie down in comfort. No special clothing or equipment but comfortable clothes that allow free movement is the only requirement for this exercise. Dr Kataria opined that laughter is a strong tool to counter depression. “To extract best out of this, it should be performed in a group, under the direction of a trained and certified laughter yoga leader. Laughter exercises are interspersed with breathing exercises. Twenty minutes of laughter is sufficient to develop full physiological benefits,” he suggested. “The present I-Pod generation is addictive to internet, video games, television. Their routine has restricted the ‘play in a group’ activities. Besides this, the nuclear families and broken homes, emotional lack of bonding with parents is also responsible for causing host of emotional problems among children. Laughter switches on the physiological systems and boosts the circulatory, digestive, and immune systems’, said Dr
Kataria. Later, in the evening session, Dr Kataria demonstrated the laughter yoga session on GMSSS-23 premises, in which around 150 sports teachers of government and aided schools took part. |
