WE were having cake and coffee at home when I asked my father, "Are you interested in Twenty20?" He said, "Good idea, you can take 20 per cent of the cake and I take 20 per cent and the rest we can leave for the family." I said, "Dad, I am not talking about the cake, Twenty20 is a new cricket series." "Oh, now I understand 20,000 is the minimum amount that sattebaaz would have to bet." "No, dad, the series is not named after a betting system. Each team plays 20 overs instead of the traditional 50 in an ODI." "That’s what I call a betting innovation. Those who put ‘satta’ on a match now don’t have to wait through the entire 50 overs", my father concluded. I said, "Just imagine how exciting it will be to watch a batsman smashing every ball in a cricket, hockey or gulli-danda style without worrying whether the ball has spun, swung or bounced." He said, "Now we don’t have to necessarily engage a cricket coach for training cricketers. Even a lathi-wielding expert could teach you a couple of shots." I said, "It is definitely geared up for greater excitement, more sixes and less time waste." My father said after a little pondering, "An idea has just struck me which could further make the game ultimate. Why not decide the fate of the match at the toss itself?"
