Family time

It is a compelling drama about temptation, deception and grief in family life and sees the return of Calista Flockhart (Ally Mc Beal) to television. Brothers & Sisters on Star World every Tuesday at 10 pm follows the Walkers through the maze of modern urban life — the pressures, limitless options and the struggle to grow beyond one’s backgrounds. It is about a family’s adult siblings — Sarah, the corporate czarina who returns to the family business; Thomas, the loyal son and charming womaniser; Kevin, the gay lawyer; and Kitty (Calista Flockhart), right-wing radio host-turned-TV pundit who’s always been Daddy’s little girl.

The show explores what it means to be a family in the 21st century, and how these brothers and sisters balance their own lives as they strive to accept their parents as people — flawed, contradictory and forgivable — rather than just as a father and mother. A heart-warming series that will keep you glued to the small screen.

For architect Cesar Pelli and his team, it was a dream that nearly soured. The dream was to build the world’s tallest building but lack of standard raw materials and unstable ground almost brought the project tumbling down. The Petronas Towers at 8 pm on National Geographic Channel on September 20 at 8 pm is all about the world’s tallest structure in Malaysia. Initially it seemed like an architect’s dream to build a massive skyscraper in the heart of one of the world’s fastest growing cities — the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur. However, the project virtually came to a grinding halt and was almost written off. Find out how a miracle saved the project and the tapering twin towers (connected by a sky bridge) came up brick by brick, becoming a marvel of modern building technology. — NF
