Colours of Punjab

Punjabi artistes stole the show in three world festivals held recently in Buyukcekmecee, Bursa and Izmit cities of Turkey. Their colourful dresses and foot-tapping bhangra and gidda performances saw a number of artistes from 30 countries cry for more. 

The Punjabi dresses also caught the eye of Miss Turkey, who not only enquired about the Punjabi dress code but also came dressed as a Punjabi muthiaar to the delight of those who had gathered to watch the festival. 

The Punjab Cultural Promotion Council became the first Indian folk ensemble to participate in Golden- Karagoz — World Folk Dance competition at Bursa city, where Punjab folk dancers impressed the international audience. Punjabis were again the cynosure of all eyes during the International-Folk-Parade at Taksim Square in Istanbul.

About 30 countries took part in these global festivals. They included Mexico, South Korea, Thailand, Poland, Venezuela, Russia, Philippinrd, Greece, Spain, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia, Sakha Republic, Colombia, China, Kazakhstan, Slovakia, Hungary and Turkey. 

Although the artistes from Bulgaria, Mexico and Russia clinched the first three positions, respectively, the Punjab artistes were the choice of the audience. The Punjab troupe also gave a display of martial arts along with the artistes of Georgia.
