Nigaar Khan
Nigaar Khan

BEEN confined to the sidelines for long, model-turned-TV star Nigaar Z. Khan is now out to prove that when it comes to acting, she can be as good — or as bad — as the next best vamp of the small screen. Best known for her snarling cameo of Sheetal in Zee TVLipstick, Nigaar is also remembered for the negative characters she played in Siddhant on Star One and Rihahee on Sony. She was also seen recently doing a sizzling jig on the beats of Crazy Kiya Re in Kaaajal on Sony.

But wait. There’s another dimension to Nigaar. She can do intense roles—remember her as the sacrificing Divya in Ayushman or Laila in Ek Ladki Anjani Si? And if that wasn’t enough, she`A0can be quite a scream when it comes to comic roles. Don’t believe it? Then you have to watch her playing Anjolina in Yes Boss. She’ll have you in splits.

IT was an extraordinary life that began much like that of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru — fighting the British for freedom. Later, as President of Egypt Anwar Al-Sadat presided over the expulsion of Soviet military advisers, historic October 1973 War, improved relations with the US, economic liberalisation and peace with Israel. Sadat on History Channel on Sunday (July 29 at 8 pm) is the life story of one of Egypt’s most important leaders following his climb to power to his eventual assassination. Louis Gossett Jr — who won an Oscar in An Officer & A Gentleman — plays Sadat, a role for which he was nominated for an Emmy.

The first part of the mini-series is devoted to Sadat’s formative years fighting against the British occupiers of his country. The second part is devoted to Sadat’s peacemaking efforts, culminating with his tradition-breaking truce with Israel in 1978.

An eventful personality, Sadat helped change the way the world perceives Egypt. — NF
