Cops go hi-tech, tie up with hotels to stem crime

The city police is going hi-tech. In a major step, initiated to provide more convenience to residents, it has unveiled a new facility which allows registration of complaints online. SSP Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh said the people now need not visit police station for lodging
FIRs. Stating that the new facility is being lapped up by the residents, the SSP said, “In the last 10 days, we have received more than 20
FIRs. It helps save precious time, both that of authorities and citizens.” The district police chief was addressing a meeting of Amritsar hotel and restaurant association here.

Woman among 5 held for smuggling drugs
Amritsar, July 10
Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) nabbed five persons on the charges of drug peddling in a special operation here. The police recovered 200 gm smack from the possession of the smugglers. The accused were identified as Mandeep Kaur of Kot Khalsa, Rajinder Singh of Kartar Nagar, Chheharta, Hardev Singh alias Deba of Mohalla Baba Farid, Gurpreet Singh alias Bunty of Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar and Nirmal of Uttam Singh Nagar.
2-year-old boy gets fresh lease of life

Doctors at the Escorts Heart and Super Specialty Institute gave a second lease of life to the two-and-half-year-old Gurbir Singh who was suffering from a rare diabetic complication.
‘Commitment a must for teachers’

A four-week general orientation course organised by the academic staff college of Guru Nanak Dev University concluded here. More than 23 teachers from different parts of the country attended the programme.
Children film fest in Sept
Amritsar, July 10
A children film festival would be organised under the aegis of the Children Film Society of India from September 10 to 15, additional deputy commissioner Paramjeet Singh said at a meeting held here today. During the festival, documentary films as well as films on educational, historical and social values would be screened for the children free in eight cinema halls of the city from 9 am to11 am.

The Indian Air Force launched ‘Mission Greening India’ at the Rajasansi International Airport to commemorate country’s biggest ever sporting event, the fourth Military World Games, scheduled to be held at Hyderabad and Mumbai in October.
Group Captain Vishwas Gaur, station commander, Rajasansi International Airport, said the motto of this programme is to make the whole nation take a look at the games in order to catch the public imagination projecting a humane face of the Indian armed forces.

AVM seeks HC bench in city

The Amritsar Vikas Manch (AVM) has demanded establishment of a full bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and a full bench of the Punjab Information Commissioner in Amritsar. This would facilitate disposing off of pending cases in three districts of Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran. The Manch has also urged to run courts in double shifts on the pattern of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
