Siddharth’s on a roll

 Siddharth Basu
Basu is all set for youth-oriented serials

Back in the early nineties when satellite television was yet in its infancy, there was one sentence that viewers looked forward to every Sunday evening on Doordarshan. And that was`85.'Welcome to Quiz Time'. Such was the popularity of Quiz Time that ever since then neither quiz shows nor its anchor Siddhartha Basu have ever had any reason to look back. Of course, Basu moved on having anchored countless shows, including the high profile Mastermind India for BBC. Then he crossed over to production with high profile shows like Kaun Banega Crorepati and Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa.

Now the man seems to be tiring of that as well and is planning his next move. What would that be? No, no more quiz or reality shows but serials. After he is through with pitching himself against Nach Baliye with the second season of Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa on Sony Entertainment Television in October, Siddharth will plunge into the eyeballs race with some racy youth-oriented shows and even soaps. The quizmaster of yore looks all set to give Balaji a run for their primetime tearjerkers.

Musical Shekhar

Shekhar Suman

The wordsmith has turned into a music man. And though the album Kuch Khawab Aise may not be the ultimate journey to musical stardom for Shekhar Suman, it would definitely give a new direction to his small screen career. After a dream run on television that turned this movie flop star into a superstar, Shekhar is as excited about his new career move as any debutant. "My expressions and feelings come out in this album. I hope people like it," says the wizard of wit. The album whose lyrics have been penned by Shekhar himself is a collection of eight love ballads set to music by Aadesh Srivastava. It features the hot Brazilian Kingfisher calendar model Bruna.

But music is not the end of his ambition. Shekhar now wants to dabble in ‘meaningful cinema’ and is hunting for a script that would do justice to his new chiselled looks.

" I am looking for something really mind-blowing which would be worth the time and money of the viewers." — NF
