In the early 1980s when she turned her back to showbiz and settled for married life, Bollywood lost a good actress. But some years later, Zarina Wahab made a comeback on the small screen and regaled viewers in serials like Heena, Kya Hadsa Kya Hakikat and Tumhari Disha. Like wine, Zarina is maturing as an actor with age. Now she’s doing Viruddh on Sony Entertainment Television and Zaara on Sahara. "I don’t want to sign more shows. I have become very selective," says the yesteryear lead actor of such breezy films as Gharonda and Chitchor. She still cherishes her role of the wicked Nagma in Heena. "I was always a good girl in films and people expected me to be that in TV serials as well. But I broke that mindset with Nagma. I am happy with the way it shaped up," says Wahab. Zarina is all excited
about playing Smriti Irani’s mother in Viruddh and is happy to
be part of one of the more successful soaps these days. However she
feels that there’s not much of a challenge playing the mother-in-law
in Zaara. But the best part of these serials, she says, "Is
that I am playing my age."
Legend retold This is the legendary saga of passion and forbidden love. Filmed in Israel and Spain, this made-for-TV movie may be based on an ancient tale but it has not lost its relevance in modern times. The Story of David on May 26 at 8 pm on History Channel stars Timothy Bottoms (The Last Picture Show) and Jane Seymour (Dr Quinn Medicine Woman) and the Academy Award nominee Anthony Quayle as King Saul. The life of King David
begins with his legendary battle with Goliath, and ends with his
disastrous romance with Bathsheba and struggles to preserve Israel. The
legend is presented as credibly as possible and the passionate love
affair is handled with taste and decorum. The moral of the story comes
out loud and clear — when you face giant problems ask God for help and
he will come to your rescue.
