By K. L. Johar Sneh Prakashan. Pages 368. Rs 600

The book brings out a saga of Bhagat Singh’s sacrifices in the national movement culminating in his martyrdom on March 23, 1931. The forced exile of his uncle Sardar Ajit Singh, frequent jail pilgrimags of his father Sardar Kishen Singh and a good number of other revolutionaries steeled his resolve to make the supreme sacrifice. The first part of the book traces in brief the evolution of the freedom movement and the role of Bhagat Singh’s family in it. The second part brings the reader face to face with the writings on or about Bhagat Singh by those who faced the political trials with him and braved the imperial atrocities. The third part contains some precious and memorable writings of Bhagat Singh himself. The writer, an eminent academician and former Vice-chancellor of the Guru Jambeshwar University has authored a number of books on the freedom movement. He firmly believes that stories of valour and sacrifice of freedom fighters will bring out an awakening among youth. The present book is one such in the series.
